Rhine Falls

Rhine Falls are only about an hour away from Zurich. For better flexibility and to adjust before longer drives in the days ahead, we decided that we go there by car. It is kind of interesting that the road to the falls crosses into Germany, then back into Switzerland. So we accidentally visited Germany for a few minutes, too.

As we expected, Rhine Falls are very touristy. So we did a touristy thing and took a boat trip to go up close to the falls and close to the Germany border.

The trip to the Germany border had an interesting moment. We passed a real WWII bunker.

Rhine falls up close were very… white. Lots of white water. Not a lot of scenery, but still very impressive.

After we were done with the mandatory (not really) boat tour, we decided to take a walk to see the falls from the other side. It took us about 2 and a half hours to do a round trip. However, we’ve been making quite a few stops to take pictures. This is what we saw that day.

There is a bridge that goes across the river and takes you to a small island with a small cute castle at the top, called Schlössli Wörth.

It is possible to see the waterfall from a middle of the fall from a rock. You need to take a boat trip to that rock and climb some of the stairs. I really wanted to climb that rock in the middle of the falls but during this time of the year (June), the trips to the rock are not performed. I think it is because of the water volume.

On the other side we could actually get much closer to the waterfall. It is quite amazing to see and experience its power so close.

By the time we got back to our apartment in Zurich, it was late. The view from our apartment window was magnificent.
