Soglio
Soglio is a tiny Swiss village close to the Italian border. It is probably the most picturesque village in Switzerland, or at least the most picturesque we saw. High up the mountains and overlooking more mountains, it is fitting that its name translates as Throne.
We spent only a couple of hours there but I wish we stayed longer. It is just absolutely lovely and peaceful. The best part was that there was not a lot of tourists. Honestly, I don’t know how Soglio would fit many people anyway, and the road to get there was very narrow and steep, so it would be very inconvenient to get there if there were traffic.
The village’s origin dates back to medieval times, and some parts of Soglio definitely felt like we traveled back in time.
Some parts of the village look more like Victorian buildings, like Palazzo Salis hotel.
Some of the places even had unexpected modern installations behind some medieval looking doors.
To top it off, there is also a nice rose garden with giant sequoias and lots of mountain views every way you look.
